New Rule: If you don’t like the way you are being
stereotyped, stop acting precisely the way the stereotype describes you to be.
A recent example is that the Extremists expect to be treated
with tolerance while they continue to call for the destruction of Israel. They
encourage violence over cartoons,
routinely sponsor
terrorists, and actually act the same way as is displayed in the cartoons.
Guess what? We see cartoons about religious and political
leaders in newspapers and on the Internet EVERY DAY and yet violent reactions
rarely occur because although we may not agree we are TOLERANT enough to
disagree without resorting to such uncivilized behavior.
While I may disagree with certain material I can’t condone
blowing up the author and his house even if the content is completely the
opposite to what I believe and personally offensive. When we have a problem with
something we write a blog, write the editor of our newspapers, perhaps vote
differently in the next election, stop buying that countries products, etc.
These are all examples of how civilized peaceful demonstations should take
place when you disagree with someone or some country.
I support free speech but there are things you can’t do and
say that endanger the Public Good: Ex: Yelling Fire in a Crowded Movie Theatre.
Making Death Threats, etc.
You are not fooling anyone when you ask for tolerance yet violently
refuse to display tolerance for anyone who doesn’t agree with you.
Like I said. If you act violently and uncivilized every time
something offends you, don’t be surprised when the world views you precisely
the way your actions show you to be.
After all, Actions really do speak louder than words.
