Now that I am one week away from being Married I decided to
reflect a bit about the difference between Younger Single Steve and the Steve
of Today:
(This will probably continue in a Part II but here we go off
the top of my head.)
Some things are different:
-Young Single Steve drove a red convertible.
-Old to-be-Married Steve drives a silver Camry Sedan
-Young Single Steve got his food from Happy Hour Appetizers
-Old to-be-Married Steve gets his food at Costco and Sam’s
club
-Young Single Steve drank, danced, and partied every weekend
-Old to-be-Married Steve works out, catches up on TV &
Sleep on weekends
-Young Single Steve lived in apartments with pools, weight
rooms, grills, clubhouses,etc.
-Old to-be-Married Steve lives in a house with his Fiancée
-Young Single Steve spent summer afternoons lounging by the
pool working on his tan
-Old to-be-Married Steve cuts the grass on summer afternoons
-Young Single Steve parked his car in a garage while the
maintaence guys plowed the apartment parking lot.
-Old to-be-Married Steve shovels the snow on the driveway
and wonders why he doesn’t have a snow blower.
-Young Single Steve wanted to live in the city to be near
the social action
-Old to-be-Married Steve likes living in the Suburbs where
the taxes are lower and it’s quiet.
-Young Single Steve didn’t have dental insurance and had
Wisdom Teeth
-Old to-be-Married Steve has dental insurance and does not
have Wisdom Teeth
-Young Single Steve did not have any pets
-Old to-be-Married Steve walks the dog.
-Young Single Steve thought life insurance was for fools
-Old to-be-Married Steve wonders how much life insurance he
needs for his family
-Young Single Steve bought stuff when he felt like it
-Old to-be-Married Steve plans and saves money for big
unusual purchases.
-Young Single Steve got groups of other young singles to go
out to do fun things.
-Old to-be-Married Steve hangs out mostly with other couples
or his Fiancée (At least lately!)
-Young Single Steve loved to train in various martial arts
-Old to-be-Married Steve has too many injuries to train in
such high impact and strenuous sports. He tries to keep up with the West-Point
prospects who are 15 years his junior.
-Young Single Steve didn’t care about texting on his phone.
He called people
-Old to-be-Married Steve is a text-a-holic
-Young Single Steve knew where he would spend Christmas and
Holidays
-Old to-be-Married Steve has a yearly negotiation of what
time is spent with who’s family each Christmas.
-Young Single Steve knew women spent insane amounts of money
on clothes, makeup, and hair but didn’t really care.
-Old to-be-Married Steve knows the exact amounts of money
his woman spends on those appearance related items and is considering a second
mortgage on the house to pay for them.
Some things are the same:
-Young Single Steve wanted a big house with a wife, kids and
a dog.
-Old to-be-Married Steve also wants a big house with a wife,
kids and a dog.
-Young Single Steve complains about taxes
-Old to-be-Married Steve also complains about taxes
-Young Single Steve was a sarcastic arrogant guy.
-Old to-be-Married Steve is still a sarcastic arrogant guy.
-Young Single Steve worked out a lot to try to stay in shape
-Old to-be-Married Steve is still trying to exercise to stay
in shape.
-Young Single Steve writes a blog
-Old to-be-Married Steve is still blogging.
-Young Single Steve watched a lot of PSU and Steeler
Football
-Old to-be-Married Steve also watches lots of Football
-Young Single Steve could not see dust in his home
-Old to-be-Married Steve also believes dust is invisible
-Young Single Steve loved to grill out in good (or bad
weather)
-Old to-be-Married Steve still loves to grill animal flesh
-Young Single Steve always wanted to go to the tropics when
it got cold and snowy
-Old to-be-Married Steve also wants to go warm and sunny
each Pittsburgh Winter.
